Palestine (TX) Westwood quarterback Kavian Bryant committed to Texas Tech on Saturday afternoon, choosing the Red Raiders over a final group that included Texas, Florida State, Colorado and SMU.

The commitment is a huge deal for Texas Tech. Per Rivals, Bryant is rated as the No. 1 quarterback in the 2027 class and the No. 42 overall player in the country.

Bryant immediately becomes one of Texas Tech’s top rated commitments of the recruiting service era, joining the likes of Micah Hudson, Felix Ojo, LaDamion Guyton, Breiden Fehoko, Jack Anderson and Jalen Brewster.

Taking a look at the quarterback position only, Bryant also sets the mark there as the best in program history. We take a look at the other top quarterbacks who chose to head to West Texas and what became of their careers.

Scotty Young, Davis Webb, Michael Brewer, Clayton Nicholas and Patrick Mahomes II just missed the cut.

1) 2027 Kavian Bryant, Palestine (TX) Westwood

Bryant is the best quarterback to ever commit to Texas Tech per the Rivals Industry Ranking with a grade of 94.16. The multi-sport star still has 13 months until his signing day, so Red Raider fans will have to be patient before they can see their newest gunslinger take the field in scarlet and black.

2) 2021 Behren Morton, Eastland (TX) HS

Texas Tech’s current starting quarterback, Morton is second all-time among Tech QB commits with a Rivals Industry Ranking of 93.25. The former blue chip chose Texas Tech over Texas A&M, USC, TCU, Baylor and several others. So far in his career, Morton has thrown for 7,710 yards and 62 touchdowns. He has been named honorable mention All-Big 12 twice in his career.

3) 2004 Graham Harrell, Ennis (TX) HS

Harrell, arguably the best quarterback in school history, comes in third all-time with a Rivals Industry Ranking of 93.23. Harrell had a tremendous career in Lubbock under Mike Leach, throwing for 15,793 yards and 134 touchdowns in his career. He finished 4th in the 2008 Heisman Trophy voting and played three seasons for the Green Bay Packers after going undrafted in the 2009 NFL draft. Harrell, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, was inducted into the Texas Tech Ring of Honor last month and is currently the offensive coordinator at Abilene Christian.

4) 2024 Will Hammond, Hutto (TX) HS

Current Red Raider backup quarterback Will Hammond comes in fourth on the all-time Texas Tech QB commit list with a Rivals Industry Ranking of 92.04. Through two seasons on campus Hammond has shown that potential, most notably in the second half of a huge road win @ Utah earlier this season. So far in his career he’s thrown for 1,151 yards and 9 touchdowns. Unfortunately, Hammond suffered a serious knee injury in the win vs Oklahoma State and will be out for the rest of the season.

5) 2025 Lloyd Jones, Hitchcock (TX) HS

The final spot also belongs to a current Texas Tech quarterback in Lloyd “Chubby” Jones who checks in with a Rivals Industry Ranking of 89.52. Jones chose Texas Tech over offers from Colorado State, North Texas, Texas State and UTSA among others. As a true freshman, he has yet to appear in a game for the Red Raiders.
