Player's Era Tournament

Maryland basketball will compete in one of the premiere multi-team tournaments next season when they face UNLV and Gonzaga as part of the 2025 Player’s Era Men’s Championship Tournament in Las Vegas.

The Terps will open the tournament versus UNLV on Monday, Nov. 24 (12 AM ET / 9 PM PT) and face Gonzaga the following day, Tuesday, Nov. 25 (9:30 PM ET / 6:30 PM PT).

This will mark the first meeting between the Terps and Running Rebels since 1986, while Maryland basketball last faced Gonzaga in 2008 during the semifinals of the Old Spice Classic in Florida, falling to the No. 9 Bulldogs 81-59.

Teams will play championship match-up games on Wednesday, Nov. 26 and Thursday, Nov. 27 based on the results of the first two days’ group play.

The event will be one of the most competitive in-season tournaments ever put together, with a field that includes Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, Creighton, Gonzaga, Houston, Iowa State, Kansas, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oregon, Rutgers, San Diego State, Saint Joseph’s, St. John’s, Syracuse, Tennessee, and UNLV.

The 2025 field originally included Texas A&M, but they were replaced by the Terps after Buzz Williams was hired by Maryland back in April.

Every school participating in the event is already guaranteed $1 million in NIL money, with an additional $1 million going to the tournament champion.

Games will be played at either MGM Grand Garden Arena or Michelob Ultra Arena and broadcast by Warner Bros. Discovery with games televised on TNT, TBS and streaming on HBO Max. Venues and television assignments for each matchup will be announced at a later time.

Gonzaga, one of the nation’s elite programs over the last decade, is likely the Terps’ marquee matchup of the non-conference slate, as they enters the 2025-2026 season ranked in a number of way-too-early top 25 polls.

Maryland is set to host local rival Georgetown in the team’s 2025-2026 home opener. They will also face Marquette and Virginia on the road as part of the non-conference slate.
