Maryland football commit Jianni Davis

Maryland football capped off the month of June with a commitment Monday from the son of one of the program’s all-time greats.

Jianni Davis, a 2026 edge rusher from District Heights (Md.) Bishop McNamara, will follow in his father Vernon Davis’ footsteps, he announced June 30 via social media.

Vernon Davis dominated the college gridiron on the offensive side of the ball back in the early 2000, earning first-team All-American as well as first-team All-ACC honors as a junior at Maryland. He was a first-round NFL Draft pick in 2006 and went on to have a long NFL career that included two Pro Bowl selections and a Super Bowl championship with the Denver Broncos in 2015.

The 6-foot-1, 230-pound Jianni Davis chose the Terps over offers from Albany, East Carolina, Elon, Howard, Marshall, Morgan State, Toledo and more. He had an official visit to East Carolina set up for the fall, but that is no longer expected to take place.

A two-way player at McNamara who played both tight end and outside linebacker, Jianni Davis racked up 40 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and four sacks last season as a junior competing in the highly competitive WCAC.

Jianni Davis is the eighth overall commitment of Maryland’s 2026 class and the fifth in-state pledge, joining the Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances quartet of three-star tight end Damon Hall, three-star safety Khmari Bing, three-star cornerback Hakim Satterwhite and the crown jewel of the group, five-star edge rusher Zion Elee.
