Diego Pavia Hype Train Picks Up More Steam, Named to the Davey O'Brien Award Watch List
Vanderbilt Quarterback, and recent star of the Netflix documentary “Any Given Saturday”, Diego Pavia added another watch list to his preseason accolades, this time the Dave O’Brien Award. Pavia has already been placed on both the Maxwell Player of the Year Award and Walter Camp Award watch lists. The Davey O’Brien award was established in 1977 and is presented annually to the best Quarterback in college football. Recent winners include:

I have already run through Pavia’s 2024 stats multiple times in previous articles, but what the hell – I’ll do it again. Diego Pavia accounted for over 3,000 yards of total offense, 28 total touchdowns, and only threw 4 interceptions. Pavia was one of only 5 SEC QBs since the conference expansion in 1992 to throw for 2000+ yards, rush for 800 or more yards, and turn the ball over less than 10 times. The other 4 names on that list – Jayden Daniels, Jalen Hurts, Cam Newton, and Tim Tebow.

The first round of fan voting will begin October 28th following the official 35-player QB Class of 2025 announcement on that same date. The list of semifinalists from that class will be named on Wednesday, November 12th. The 3 finalists will be announced Tuesday, November 25th. The 2025 Davey O’Brien Award winner will be unveiled live on ESPN on Friday, Dec. 12, during The Home Depot College Football Awards.
