Diego Pavia Named to Maxwell Award Watch List

Vanderbilt star Quarterback Diego Pavia was named to the 2025-26 Maxwell preseason watch list coming off of an incredible first season at the helm. The Maxwell Award is presented annually to the best college football player in the country, first awarded in 1937 to HB Clint Frank of Yale. Recent recipients include – Ashton Jeanty (2024), Michael Penix Jr. (2023), Caleb Williams (2022), Bryce Young (2021), and DeVonta Smith (2020).

Pavia finished last year as one of only 5 players since the SEC’s expansion in 1992 to throw for 2000+ yards, rush for 800+ yards, and have less than 10 turnovers. The star QB also accounted for 28 of Vandy’s touchdowns while only throwing 4 interceptions.

Pavia is one of 80 players included in the preseason watch list. A list comprised of 47 Quarterbacks, 26 Running Backs, and 7 Wide Receivers. Taylen Green, Jackson Arnold, DJ Lagway, Garrett Nussmeier, John Mateer, LaNorris Sellers, Arch Manning, and Marcel Reed were the other SEC Quarterbacks included on the list.

Semifinalists will be announced on Tuesday, November 11th, and finalists will be named Tuesday, November 25th.
