Sedrick Alexander Healthy and Ready to Take Step Forward in 2025: "Now that I'm 100%, I feel like I can be able to do anything on the field this year."
Sedrick Alexander was the most productive running back for Vanderbilt last season, carrying the ball 164 times for 586 yards and 6 TDs. However, Alexander was hampered by injuries a majority of last season. I asked how Alexander about his health status
“Feeling great, feeling 100%. Got all my strength and stuff back during spring ball and I’m just ready to attack this fall.”
That is what Vanderbilt fans want to hear, there was a clear drop in Alexander’s “first man miss” capability and explosiveness during the home stretch of the 2024 season. Keeping Alexander healthy alongside AJ Newberry and MK Young is going to be a major key to Vanderbilt improving this season.
Sedrick was then asked about how he can take a step forward this upcoming season. As expected, health was at the forefront of his mind.
“With being healthy, I’ll be able to do more things, be available for different types of plays. Some plays I wasn’t available for last year because of the injury status I was, but now that I’m 100%, I feel like I can be able to do anything on the field this year.”
While that is great to hear, Vanderbilt specifically struggled creating big plays in the run game last season. The longest rush of the year was a 56 yard run by backup QB Nate Johnson against FCS Alcorn State. I asked Sedrick how he has prepared to create more explosive this upcoming season.
“When I see the hole, make sure I hit it and make sure I finish. Try finishing runs more than I did last year … More broken tackles this year is going to be the success for our running back group.”
