Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks isn’t leaving Athens any time soon.

The University of Georgia Athletic Association executive committee has unanimously approved adjustments to Brooks’ contract.

Brooks has received a one-year contract extension through 2031. Brooks also received a base salary increase of $125,000 per year. His six-year average yearly compensation now sits at $1.75 million, not including incentives.

“I want to thank President Morehead for his leadership and his unwavering support and guidance throughout my five years as athletic director,” Brooks said in a statement. “At the University of Georgia, I am surrounded by the brightest people in our profession. Without the colleagues I serve alongside every day, our coaches and student-athletes, none of these accomplishments are possible. My family and I are honored to be a part of the Bulldog family, and we look forward to many more years leading this academic and athletic powerhouse.”

Brooks has served as the athletic director at Georgia since 2021. Under his leadership, Bulldog athletic programs have captured seven team national championships, 33 individual national championships, and 12 SEC titles.

Georgia also tied a school record with four national championships this past spring. The football program will begin its chase for a third national championship in Brooks’ tenure when it faces Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl on January 1.

“Josh does an incredible job for us as a football program, but his benefit goes way beyond football,” Georgia football coach Kirby Smart said in November. “He’s an athletic administrator that cares about this place. He wants to be great in all athletics. He cares about all the sports. It’s not just football. I mean, yeah, every AD wants football to be successful because that funds your athletic department. He makes no qualms about that. We need to be successful in the age of revenue sports. But his job is to support every athletic endeavor we have here at UGA, and he does that every year.”

Georgia has also completed several facilities projects under Brooks’ leadership, including the new Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Tennis Courts, the south side improvements to Sanford Stadium, renovations to the baseball and softball stadiums, and more.

“Since his hiring, Josh Brooks has been an outstanding leader for Georgia Athletics and proven to be one of the nation’s most successful and widely respected athletic directors,” said UGA President Jere W. Morehead. “I am pleased we have secured his long-term future with the University of Georgia.”
