'The atmosphere was out of this world': Karlos May talks Georgia visit

Karlos May attended his first Georgia game on Saturday night, and the experience didn’t disappoint.
Even though the Bulldogs lost to Alabama, the four-star defensive tackle had a great time.
“That was my first game day visit down to Athens. I’ve been there a few times. I went down there for a spring practice, and I went down there for a summer camp, but that was my first game day visit to Athens,” May told UGASports. “It was a great first experience. Like, man, the atmosphere was just out of this world. I ain’t really never been around an atmosphere like that at all. Because every single play, literally every single play, all you heard were a little sound effects. You heard the crowd jumping. The fans were lit.”
May admitted that he wanted to go out onto the field and play.
“I thought I was about to put on shoulder pads and a helmet, and strap up,” he added. “That’s how exciting it was.”
Before the game, 65,000 PixMob wristbands were distributed to fans. The wristbands are LED and synchronized to display colors and patterns in the crowd in real-time using infrared light or radio frequency technology.
May acknowledged that it was one of his favorite parts of the game.
“The light show was pretty good. I’ve been around a couple of light shows before, but that one with the wristbands that they gave us, that was very cool,” May said. “Because on my side, I couldn’t really see, but when I looked around the stadium, I saw everybody’s light up. It was a packed game, so it was very exciting.”
Observations from the game
May is one of the top defensive linemen Georgia is recruiting in the 2027 class. He already has an offer from the Bulldogs.
May wanted to see how Georgia performed against Alabama, which is also a top school for him at the moment.
Even though the Bulldogs “underperformed” in the first half, May enjoyed seeing them make second-half adjustments. He was really impressed with how defensive line coach Tray Scott had his players stopping the run.
“It was an amped up game. Both teams came in ready to fight,” May said. “Georgia’s defense might have underperformed in the first half, but in the second half, they really showed what Georgia’s defense really was. They came in and showed that you’re not going to run on this defense, or you’re not just going to come into our house and take over. They bought the fight. They did what they had to do in the second half.
“They made mistakes in the first half, but in the second half, they made sure that they were able to pick it up. So that was really impressive,” he added. “I was also impressed by the defensive line. All the pressures and not letting anybody bully them out of their gap. Coach Scott has got the boys playing right.”
Relationship with Scott
May and the Georgia position coach are starting to develop their relationship.
The 6-foot-4, 305-pound defensive lineman said he got to talk with Scott after the Dawg Walk.
“He was basically mentioning that out of the whole class of 2027, he had his attention on me real bad,” May said. “We’ve been building our relationship since I was a freshman. We are usually just chopping it up. He’s letting me know what I can do to fix my game and what I can do to improve. He’ll compliment me, tell me what I’m doing well, and what I can work on. He just gives me the tips and the P’s and Q’s on what I need to do.”
May was appreciative that Scott came up and talked to him personally.
“I felt like getting a chance to speak to him really showed where I stood with him and what our relationship is, because there were a lot of kids there,” May said. “So for him to come up and chop it up with me, it just let me know that, hey, I’m somebody that he’s really invested in or that he’s really interested in. So why not give him the same type of treatment? Why not invest my time in him as he invests in me?”
Where does Georgia stand after the visit?
“After my visit, Georgia definitely stands top five. Definitely top five,” May said. “I can’t even really name my top five, but it’s just I know Georgia’s top five.”
May hopes to attend another Georgia game this season, but wants to make his rounds to other schools that are recruiting him just as hard.
“If I have another chance, then I’m definitely going to come back,” May said. “But I’m just trying to get my rounds in, getting going to all the places that I’m getting recruited by.”
