Notes From the Road: Prospects from Lee County give their take on Georgia

Georgia continued its season with a 28-6 victory over Austin Peay on Sept. 5 at Sanford Stadium. The Bulldogs had many recruits in attendance, including Lee County (GA) four-star linebacker Gregory Batson.
UGASports hit the road again this week and traveled back to South Georgia, but this time, we visited powerhouse Lee County, home of Batson and several other highly-touted prospects across multiple classes.
Here are a few notes from the trip:
Update on Batson and the Bulldogs, plus four-star WR Jaden Upshaw
- Lee County head coach Dean Fabrizio is running one of the top programs in the state.
- I watched the last 30 minutes of the practice on Wednesday and mainly focused on Batson and fellow 2027 four-star wide receiver Jaden Upshaw. The two are targets for Georgia in the next recruiting cycle.
- Batson is an impressive-looking linebacker, standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 215 pounds. His recruitment blew up after a breakout sophomore season, where he had a team-high 100 tackles and 32 tackles for loss. Batson also led the team in sacks (12) and quarterback pressures (9).
- Batson plays middle linebacker for the Trojans and has a high motor. He’s a guy who plays sideline to sideline.
- Batson has offers from Florida State, Georgia State, Florida, Ole Miss, Liberty, East Carolina, Kansas, and UCF. The 2027 prospect doesn’t have an offer from the Bulldogs, but they “intrigue” him.
- Batson was in Athens this past weekend for the Austin Peay game. He communicates with the staff and was hoping to meet with them afterward, but left due to the long weather delay. Batson wanted to know what he needed to do to earn an offer, but he hopes to return for another game. He told UGASports that if he were offered, then the Bulldogs would be near the top of his list. Glenn Schumann is recruiting Batson, who wants to strengthen his relationship with him.
- Next up is Upshaw, an impressive prospect at the wide receiver position. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound four-star wideout caught 63 passes for 842 yards and 11 touchdowns as a sophomore in a run-first offense.
- Upshaw’s recruitment skyrocketed after last season. He received offers from schools all over the country. He told UGASports that Georgia wide receivers coach James Coley is on him “hard.” Upshaw added that Coley texts him every Friday before a game. While Upshaw is still developing his relationship with Coley, he said head coach Kirby Smart has taken an interest in him.
- Upshaw wants to play in the SEC at the college level and said that he wants “to go against the best every day in practice.” He embraces competition and knows how hard Georgia practices are.
- Upshaw will be in Athens when the Bulldogs host Alabama on Sept. 27. He’s ready to see a “rowdy” environment.
A few other intriguing prospects…
- Lasiah Jackson is rated the nation’s No. 115 player in the 2026 class. He’s currently committed to Stanford but said Auburn is pushing hard. Jackson, who is very outgoing and well-spoken, brought up multiple times how much he values education. There is a great chance he stays committed to the Cardinal.
- Georgia offered the 6-foot-3, 170-pound prospect, but he hasn’t heard from the staff much since. Chase Calicut is likely not to end up in this class, so watch to see if the Bulldogs are a player here late.
- Trey Bush, a 2028 safety, is a ball player. He has offers from Florida State, USF, Ole Miss, Liberty, Arkansas, and Memphis. The Seminoles are in the lead for Bush, but he knows there’s a long way to go in his recruitment. Bush said that Georgia is also in the mix, despite not having an offer yet.
- Bush has visited Georgia for a practice and loves the in-state program. He loved how the Bulldog staff and players communicated with each other, and compared to the practices at Lee County.
- Bush would love to have an offer from Georgia. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound 2028 prospect said that an offer from the Bulldogs would mean “a lot to him” because he thinks highly of the program.
- Bush also mentioned that he’s closely watched former Georgia safety Malaki Starks for the last few seasons. He wants to mirror his game after the first-round draft pick to the Baltimore Ravens.
- Montrevious Clay is another talented 2028 defensive back for the Trojans. He’s currently rated a three-star with offers from Florida State, Ole Miss, Memphis, and Liberty. The Seminoles are his top school right now.
- Clay is a cornerback who can also rotate around the secondary. He said college coaches like his versatility.
- Last but not least is 2027 offensive lineman Shavezz Dixon. The 6-foot-4, 305-pounder projects as an interior offensive lineman at the next level. Dixon can rotate to all three positions on the inside of the offensive line.
- Dixon is an underrated player in the 2027 class. He currently has offers from Georgia Tech, Georgia State, USF, Sacramento State, Ole Miss, East Carolina, FIU, App State, Arkansas, Texas A&M, and Memphis.
- Dixon has some interest from Georgia and offensive line coach Stacey Searels. He spoke highly of the Bulldog position coach and “feels at home” every time he visits Athens for a practice or game.
- Dixon is starting to communicate more with the staff and was invited to a game later this season. He mentioned some members of his family are Georgia fans, so that an offer would be “amazing.”
