Georgia defeated Austin Peay 28-6 on Saturday afternoon at Sanford Stadium. Here is what Governor head coach Jeff Faris said about the Bulldogs following the game.

On what he attributed his team’s good showing against Georgia to: “Yeah, we’ve got a special group in our locker room. We have a special community in Clarksville, Tennessee. Our guys know how to fight and there’s a lot of things that we need to fix. We had a chance there to make it a one score game in the fourth quarter in Athens, Georgia. But that starts with me. I know this group will come to work when we get back tonight in Clarksville. I’m going to fix those whatever those issues are. But I think we have a chance to have a special group. I love working with those players and coaches every single day. They make me better. I think we’re just getting started.”

On Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton, who he recruited during his time at Duke: I love that kid man. He is a fighter tremendous leader. You can see the things that don’t show up in the box score. You know, he’s a great leader for the Georgia program. I think Coach Smart does an unbelievable job, you know, Coach Schumann, Coach Bobo. They run a first-class organization. Their guys play hard. It was fun watching them and preparing for them all week.”

On the goal line stop against Georgia just before halftime: “I think that’s everything we want to be at Austin Peay, the fight, the grit, the resolve. To be able to stop that offense which is, when it’s all said and done, going to be a top-10 offense, potentially SEC champion, potentially national champion. To stop them in that situation when we know what’s coming, right? There’s five, six O-linemen. They’re going to run the ball and we’re probably giving up, I don’t know, et’s make it 40 pounds per defensive lineman to their offensive linemen. But our guys don’t care. Every day since we’ve come together, they’ve fought. They’ve been put in difficult situations. They always respond. I’m so proud of them, the way that they fought.”
