According to the current BetMGM odds, Georgia is a 13-point favorite over Georgia Tech with a point total of 59.5 for this Saturday at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium for what is considered the rivalry’s first neutral-site game since 1912. It would mark the seventh consecutive Georgia-Georgia Tech meeting in which the Bulldogs were at least a 13-point favorite over the Yellow Jackets (after no team in the series had been favored by more than 15 points for more than 30 years).

Matchup: Georgia is 10-1 straight up this season and 5-6 against the spread (ATS). On Saturday, the Bulldogs defeated Charlotte, 35-3, but didn’t cover as a 42.5-point favorite. Still, Georgia has covered five of its last seven games. Georgia Tech is 9-2 straight up and 6-5 ATS. On Saturday night, the Yellow Jackets were upset by Pittsburgh, 42-28, losing at home as a 2.5-point favorite. After starting the season 8-0 straight up and 6-2 ATS through eight games, Georgia Tech hasn’t covered its last three games, losing two of the three straight up.

Coaching Trends: After losing to Georgia Tech in his first season of 2016, Georgia’s Kirby Smart has defeated the Yellow Jackets seven consecutive times and by an average scoring margin of more than 25 points. As an underdog, Brent Key has been an impressive 14-5 ATS, including 2-0 this season (vs. Clemson, vs. Duke), since becoming the Jackets’ head coach in October 2022. As an underdog of nine or more points, Key’s teams have won six of 15 games straight up, including three times as an underdog of 20-plus points.

History: Once dominating the series, Georgia had gone 14-5-1 ATS vs. Georgia Tech from 2001 to 2021, before the Bulldogs didn’t cover in the last three meetings—and failed to cover on average by more than two touchdowns. Last season, Georgia Tech, as a 17.5-point underdog, blew a late, two-touchdown lead and Georgia rallied for a 44-42 win in eight overtime periods. Meeting at Tech’s Grant Field the year before, the Yellow Jackets kept it close with a one-possession game, losing 31-23 as a 24-point underdog.
