Ailana Agbayani powers No. 2 Oklahoma to run-rule win over Tulsa

Patty Gasso talked about the importance of this mid-week game.
“You better have your eyes open and ready to play. Tulsa knows how to beat us. They’ve done it before in mid-week.”
Her Sooners heeded that warning as Oklahoma run-ruled Tulsa, 10-2 in six innings. The win moved Oklahoma to 23-0 on the season. Ailana Agbayani had five RBIs for the Sooners in the win.
Oklahoma scored in four of the six frames en route to the victory in Tulsa. Agbayani went 3-for-3 in the contest. She started things off by hitting a ball hard up the middle to score a run in the second inning. In the next inning, she hit a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in another. Next, in the fourth inning, she hit a bloop single that scored another run.
Finally, in the sixth inning, Agbayani burned the centerfielder for a triple to extend the Sooners’ lead to 9-2. Then, Corri Hicks had an RBI ground out that scored Agbayani for what would be the game winner.

After being unavailable in the SEC opening series against South Carolina, Sam Landry returned to get the win for the Sooners. Landry gave up three hits in one run in her 3.2 innings of work. Her offspeed pitch was working well, which allowed Landry to strike out five of the 13 batters that she faced. Comparatively, Landry relieved Audry Lowery, who pitched the first 2.1 innings for the Sooners. Coincidentally, both Lowry and Landry gave up single runs to Tulsa catcher Amber Turner. Turner had a double and a solo home run in the game.
A couple of freshmen and the veteran of the team provided the rest of the run support for Oklahoma. Gabbie Garcia was 2-2 with a home run, a single, and a pair of walks. Additionally, she also scored four runs in the game for Oklahoma. But, she was not the only Sooner Freshman to get into the mix. Sydney Barker launched an opposite-field two-run home run to extend the Oklahoma lead in the fourth inning. Finally, Cydney Sanders had a single and a double with an RBI and a stolen base to her credit.
The Sooners were able to avoid the same pitfall that hampered their SEC counterparts. Four other SEC teams fell on an upset riddle Wednesday night. Oklahoma will now travel to Bogle Park to tangle with Arkansas in their first road conference series of the season. The first pitch on Friday night is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
