Alabama has joined the transfer portal party. The Tide added a commitment from former Iowa infielder Jena Young, who has two years of eligibility left.

Young has hit for a high average each of her first two seasons with the Hawkeyes, carrying a .366 career batting average to Tuscaloosa. In conference play, Young led the team with a .444 batting average, which was fifth in the Big Ten this past season.

The former Iowa Gatorade Player of the Year will likely slot into the vacancy at second base left by the graduate Kali Heivilin. In 2025, Young recorded 99 putouts and finished the season with a .990 fielding percentage. Young, who has 16 doubles, eight triples and seven home runs in her career, probably won’t reproduce Heivilin’s 15 homers from last season, but the previous Iowa coaching staff believed she had potential for more power numbers.
