The Bandits swept the Volts this past weekend. On Saturday, it was the Bandits’ stellar pitching duo of Sarah Willis and Taylor McQuillin that led the way in the team’s 6-0 win to secure the first AUSL series sweep.

Willis logged the start for the Bandits on Saturday and worked a scoreless top of the first. The Bandits ambushed starting pitcher Rachel Garcia and the Volts. Opening the game on back-to-back singles, Erin Coffel drove in the first run of the game on a third straight single.

Bubba Nickles-Camarena continued the trend, immediately following Coffel’s RBI single with one of her own. With the bases loaded, rookie Devyn Netz added another run on a single to left field, chasing Garcia from the first inning. A sacrifice fly padded the Bandits’ lead to four after one inning.

Willis kept the Volts off the board again in the second. Meanwhile, the Bandits continued to pour on in the bottom of the inning. Morgan Zerkle led off with a solo homer off reliever Payton Gottshall. Then, consecutive free passes burned Gottshall when Delanie Wisz singled in Skylar Wallace. After two full innings, the Bandits led the Volts 6-0.

Both Willis and Gottshall tossed scoreless third and fourth innings. In the fifth, McQuillin relieved Willis after four shutout innings. No score again in the fifth and sixth brought the Volts to its final three outs. McQuillin left no doubt. The former Arizona left-hander was perfect in relief, notching six strikeouts and sitting down every batter she faced.

The Bandits and Volts head to Wichita for their next series starting on Tuesday. The Bandits will face the Talons, fresh off their series win. The Volts look to bounce back against the Blaze.
