Talons stifle Blaze to open series in Salt Lake City

After a bit of a rocky start, Georgina Corrick and Montana Fouts led the Talons to another win. The hard-throwing duo kept the Blaze bats cool, leading their team to a 3-1 win.
Corrick wasn’t as sharp as she as been lately. In the first inning, the Blaze scored a run on a fielder’s choice after loading the bases on another fielder’s choice, a walk, and a hit. The former USF star settled in after that, escaping a few jams.
The Blaze put runners on the corners with two outs in the third, but Corrick received help from Hannah Flippen, who had another great play to end the frame. The Blaze had back-to-back singles and a two-out four-pitch walk to Korbe Otis to load the bases. Corrick saved her best for last. On her last pitch of the day, Corrick froze Aubrey Leach with an inside pitch to strike her out.
Fouts came in to start the fifth. She earned her third save of the season, retiring nine of the 10 batters she faced over the final three innings.
Maya Brady made her AUSL debut after dealing with an injury. She reached in every at-bat, going 2-for-2 with a walk. After a Sierra Sacco hit a single, Brady walked and then stole second on a first-and-third play. The Blaze had a miscommunication as the ball sailed into the outfield, allowing Sacco to score and move Brady to third. Brady scored the second run on Tori Vidales’ sacrifice fly.

Brady found her first hit in the third and had an infield single in the fifth following a Sacco double. That allowed Sacco to score on a Flippen sacrifice fly.
The Talons also scored in the fourth. Caroline Jacobsen hit a leadoff double off Blaze starter Alana Vawter. Bri Ellis sneaks a two-out single through the hole in the left side to bring Jacobsen home.
