Team Ricketts and Team Kowalik earned one-run wins in the middle of Series Three as the AUSL All-Star Cup leaderboard continues to take shape.

Team Ricketts 3, Team Netz 2

Keilani Ricketts penciled herself into the circle, and it paid off. She went 5.1 innings, earning the win on Monday. However, her best play might’ve been turning the ball over to the bullpen. After allowing a double to Devyn Netz and an RBI single to Cori McMillan, Ricketts called Emma Lemley’s number.

The Virginia Tech rookie retired both batters she faced to maintain the team’s one-run lead. Montana Fouts picked up the save with a clean seventh inning. Ricketts earned top MVP honors, but her team management may have been more important than her effort in the circle.

Team Ricketts scored all three of their runs in the second. They loaded the bases with two outs. Sierra Sacco forced a full count walk to bring in the first run. Sydney Romero lined a ball down the line for a two-run single, which ended up being the difference in the game.

Team Kowalik 7, Team Coffey 6

It appeared Kayla Kowalik and her team were going to waltz into another easy win. The Captain lined a homer off the foul pole in the bottom of the drive and then Delanie Wisz drove in another first-inning run.

Kowalik picked up two more RBIs with a single in the second, and her pinch runner, Sis Bates, scored on an Aubrey Leach double. Wisz capped the five-run inning with a two-run blast.

But Team Coffey battled back. Sierra Romero kept her hot bat, hitting a two-run homer in the third. Aliyah Andrews doubled in another run to cut the lead to four in the fourth. Team Coffey had a big chance in the fifth inning against Sam Landry. The first three batters reached before Ana Gold was hit by a pitch to bring in a run. Dejah Mulipola singled in another run to make it 7-5. Alana Vawter was able to end the threat for Team Kowalik, striking out one batter before rolling an inning-ending double play.

Danieca Coffey brought her team within one with a solo shot off Vawter in the sixth. Vawter had the last laugh, earning the save after three innings of work, allowing two hits.
