What is your favorite softball memory?
Playing varsity my freshman year of high school and making it to the Texas 6A Regional Finals. The entire year was special; the seniors adopted me and made me feel like part of the family. They were my biggest supporters whenever any doubt crept in. They dubbed me ‘fishy,’ and it’s a nickname they still call me a year later. Every moment of that season was special.
Who inspired you to play softball?
Aliyah Andrews inspired me to be an outfielder. Before watching her play, I was a pitcher; after watching her fly in the outfield, I knew that’s what I wanted to do.

About Leatherman on the field:
Avery is a vocal leader who demonstrates high softball IQ. On offense, she’s always looking for the next base and on defense, ready to get the next out. She knows the play isn’t over until time is called. Offensively, she has been able to produce hits, runs, and RBI’s as the lead-off hitter for her high school team, leading in average, RBI’s, hits, OBP, and runs scored. For her travel team, she was named to the TFL Summer Champsionship All-Tournament team, being in the top 5 in several offensive categories. She brings her hard work off the field to every plate appearance, as evidenced by an on-base percentage over .500 for the summer season.
