We continue our recruiting spotlight series with 2027 pitcher Madison Such from the IL Chill organization, who was recently ranked as a four-star pitcher in her class.

What is your favorite softball memory? 

I have a lot of great memories playing softball, but one that sticks out is when my grandfather recently passed away. My first high school game was that night and he was supposed to be there. I still went out and played for him, because that is what he would have wanted. I threw a 1 hit shutout that day, it was for him!

Who inspired you to play softball? 

My dad inspired me. He coached me until 14U when I became a member of the Illinois Chill. He still helps me train along with all of my great instructors and my sister, who is also a member of the Illinois Chill 14U.

Who is your favorite softball player? 

Rachel Garcia. She is a dominant pitcher who also hits!

What life lesson has softball taught you? 

To work hard for your goals. Sometimes things aren’t going to be easy, and anything worthwhile isn’t easy, but if you put in hard work and dedication, you can achieve anything.

What is your dream job? 

Physical Therapist or something to do with athletes.

Scouting Report on Such:

Maddie throws in the mid-high 60s and has been clocked as high as 70 over the past year in game. She is able to locate pitches and change speeds. She has a near 70% strike rate and averages a strikeout an inning or better. She is someone who always wants the ball, especially in the big game. She is someone who leads by example and always looks to help teammates on the field or in the dugout. Maddie looks to be an all-around softball player, working tirelessly on her craft, be it hitting, pitching, or defense.
