Auburn will face Troy for the first time in history on Sept. 6, 2031. The game will be played in Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Troy Athletic Director Kyle George released a statement about the future matchup.

“This is a marquee game that I know will excite our fan base,” George said. “This is a great in-state matchup that our fans will travel exceptionally well to, and that will spark great interest from both fan bases. Thank you to Auburn Director of Athletics John Cohen and his staff for working with us to make this game a reality.”

Troy has been a much-improved program in the last five seasons. Troy won 12 games in 2022 and 11 games in 2023 under former head coach Jon Sumrall. In 2025, second-year head coach Girard Parker led the Trojans to an 8-5 record and bowl bid. Troy joined the FBS in 2001 and became a member of the Sun Belt Conference in 2004.

Auburn has dominated lower-level in-state matchups. The Tigers recently hosted South Alabama for the first time, beating the Jags 31-15 in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Auburn faced in-state program UAB in 1996, beating the Blazers 29-0 in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Auburn has played in-state program Alabama State twice, once in 2018 and again in 2021. The Tigers won both matchups, scoring 60+ points each time. Auburn faced Jacksonville State in 2015 and won 27-20 in overtime.
