HOOPS COMMITMENT: Top-120 recruit Caleb Williams commits to Auburn
Steven Pearl has picked up his first commitment as head coach at Auburn.
Top-120 recruit Caleb Williams, who is ranked by Rivals as the No. 18 overall recruit in Florida, announced on Friday his decision to commit to Pearl and the Tigers.
Williams chose Auburn over UCF and South Florida, among others.
“It feels great,” Williams said of his commitment to Auburn. “Auburn is amazing. I love it there. I love the culture. I love the coaches. They value me really high. They have a really good plan for me. I am looking forward to going in and improving and there is no better place for me to do it than Auburn.”
Williams took an official visit to Auburn Oct. 10-12. The visit played a big role in his decision.
“I came back home and woke up the next day and couldn’t wait to be an Auburn Tiger,” he said. “I wanted to get back on campus. I could not wait.”
Auburn assistant Corey Williams also played a big role. The two have developed a good relationship since Auburn offered in the summer.
“(Corey Williams) actually came to see me the second to last period of July,” Caleb Williams said. “I played really good and he talked to me after and stayed in contact. Our last tournament, he came to the very last game and I had another really good showing and he offered me there on the spot. He put me pretty high on their board. I was like number one on the board. That meant a lot to me.
“And as a person, our relationship was huge in my decision to commit. He is a great guy, a great person. He’s a leader and someone I am looking forward to playing and learning under.”

Williams excited about Auburn’s future under Pearl
Caleb Williams also is excited about Auburn’s future under Pearl and about being the first to commit to the new coach.
“I am really looking forward to it,” Caleb Williams said. “(Pearl) is a lot like me in that he has something to prove. He has a lot of doubters and I have a lot of doubters, so we both have a lot to prove. We both have a chip on our shoulders.
“I really like him as a coach and as a person. He is a great guy who cares about his players and their development. Coach wants you to get better. He also is a big believer in faith and growing in your faith and that was big for me, too.”
Williams said Auburn is recruiting him as a combo guard, a guy who could play the point or off-guard positions.
