When Derick Hall and Shaun Shivers led Auburn out of the tunnel before the Akron game on Saturday, they did so holding flags.

Hall was carrying the American flag. Shivers an Auburn one.

It was a first for Auburn, but something that will be a mainstay under Bryan Harsin. It will continue all season for Auburn.

Two different players each week will carry the flags and lead Auburn onto the field.

The player carrying the American flag will be selected for his unifying force that represents Auburn’s highest standards and ideals.

The player carrying the Auburn flag, or “Battle Cry flag”, will represent all it means to be an Auburn Tiger.

The new tradition has been well-received by fans on social media, as well as the players, who appear to have fully embraced it.

The tradition will continue this Saturday as Auburn (1-0) hosts Alabama State. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT.
