Sumrall remains betting favorite to be Auburn’s next coach

AUBURN | Jon Sumrall remains the betting favorite to become Auburn’s next head football coach as the field narrows.

The current Tulane coach is listed as -300 odds to replace Hugh Freeze according to Bet Online. Freeze was fired Nov. 2 after a 10-3 loss to Kentucky to finish his AU career 15-19 overall and 6-16 in the SEC. Auburn AD John Cohen is leading the search and hopes to have the hire made by Dec. 1.

Behind Sumrall, Bet Online lists James Madison coach Bob Chesney at +400, current Auburn interim coach DJ Durkin at +500, Georgia Tech coach Brent Key +700, USC coach Lincoln Riley +900, Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham +1000 and Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea +1400.

James Franklin, who was hired by Virginia Tech, Jeff Brohm, Eli Drinkwitz, Glenn Schumann, Jimbo Fisher, Gus Malzahn, Dan Mullen, Alex Golesh, Ryan Silverfield, Jon Gruden, Fran Brown, Manny Diaz, Lane Kiffin, Charles Huff and Nick Saban have all been removed from the board since the last major update two weeks ago.

Moneyline odds are based on $100 bets. You have to bet $300 on a -300 favorite to win $100. If you bet $100 on a +400 underdog, you win $400.
