What Britton said: “Going into the season last year, I was around 301 (pounds). Today, I weighed 312. I actually gained a pound from yesterday and I actually lost a couple of pounds during practice.”

  • “I’d say I have gotten up about 10 pounds and the big thing for me was transforming my body going into the year and cutting down on fat and gaining muscle,” Britton said. “Our strength staff and nutritionists do a great job. They try to individualize as much as they can. It is helped so much, I can tell that I feel better and move better at practice. Doing stuff in the weight room to loosen up the hips and ankle mobility—things that are really important for linemen. It’s more fluid and easier.”
  • “The hardest part really from our offense at Western to this offense is just the competition level,” Britton said. “The competition is a lot different than what I faced at Western. I tell guys, at Western, the one’s and two’s are pretty good. I mean, they conference players of the year for offense, defense, and special teams. It’s a great place, but they don’t have a four-deep of guys who can do that.”
  • “Obviously you have the freak-shows here,” he said. “Everyone has them. That’s the big difference. The difference here is that there are 100 guys here who are really good athletes. At Western there are probably 40 or 50.”

Who are these “freak shows?” “There’s more than one, let me tell you.”

  • On Appalachian State transfer Jalen McLeod: “I think Jalen McLeod is one, I think he is a very twitchy guy for his size.”
  • On others: “Justin Rogers is like that, Dillon Wade is one that comes to mind. I mean, I could list 40 guys like that that are all athletes I have never seen. We like to joke, at Western, we had one receiver who could do all the stuff that guys do here. But, there is one at Western and there are 10 here. That’s the big difference. Every guy here was a four or five star out of high school.”
