VIDEO: Hugh Freeze Press Conference
Auburn is opening fall camp in earnest Wednesday and Hugh Freeze was, as expected, quite forthcoming about his team’s current situation.
He opened by confirming that wideout Malcolm Simmons, arrested last week for domestic battery, will be practicing with the team. Freeze said he was told by administrators that Simmons could practice and that essentially removed him from the decision-making process.

The head coach also confirmed that he’s asked defensive coordinator DJ Durkin to take it easy on quarterback Jackson Arnold by withholding exotic looks during both spring ball and fall camp. It’s a curious decision to be sure, but Freeze went in depth during his explanation about why this is important to him.
During the final moments of the interview, Freeze provided an uptempo update on his health. He is battling a variety of ailments, most notably a non-aggressive form of prostate cancer.
