-Jeffrey and Keith take a closer look at the massive commitment last Friday by Walker White, a touted 4-star quarterback from Little Rock Christian Academy (Ark.) who chose the Tigers over Clemson and many others. What does it mean for the program and how did Auburn pull it off?
Well, one big factor in this recruitment clearly was the offensive staff Auburn coach Hugh Freeze has assembled. He’ll have a team of coaches working with the Tiger quarterbacks and that means the future of Auburn QB recruiting looks very bright. From Day 1, Freeze understood the QB position was by far the most important on the field. That is evident in how he put his staff together and how it’s paying off. White was his first big QB commitment at Auburn. We do not believe it will be his last.
-Which position group should Auburn recruiting benefit the most at thanks to White’s commitment? One could certainly make the case that it will be receiver, where several big-name and big-time targets have emerged. In fact, White himself named a handful of them during his commitment ceremony. Many of those prospects are in the 6-foot-3 range and we all know Freeze loves those taller receivers. Who are a few to watch?
-Freeze and the Tigers don’t seem to be shying away from the competition. Already, they’ve flipped recruits from programs such as Ohio State, Tennessee and FSU. Now, they’ve beaten Clemson for a very good QB prospect — and they have made major targets out of two big Georgia Bulldog commitments from the Peach State. One of them visited Auburn two weekends ago. They’re also going after several Alabama commitments and a few of them recently visited the Tigers as well. What does all of this mean for the program?
-How bright does the future look for Auburn right now on the recruiting trail? Well, all the evidence thus far suggests Freeze and Co. are poised to keep making noise given the amount of significant recruiting win the Tigers already have piled up since Freeze was hired Nov. 28.
