And then there were four in the recruitment of Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.) four-star defensive lineman Hunter Osborne.

Clemson is among the group of programs still battling for the No. 113 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus rankings. Alabama, Texas and Tennessee join Clemson in Osborne’s top four. Osborne will announce his commitment on Aug. 1.

The summer has been good for Osborne to simply think about his upcoming decision.

“They have their similarities and their differences,” Osborne told On3’s Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons. “They’re all great programs. They all develop the same guys to the next level. They’re kind of different also. Texas is in (the process) of going to the SEC. Clemson is in the ACC. Bama and Clemson have always been on top of programs. Texas and Tennessee, are definitely on the rise.

Clemson’s case to Hunter Osborne

Osborne has family ties to the area. His sister lives in Greenville. That won’t play much of a factor for Osborne. He’s said in the past his sister’s career could have her on the move at any time.

Clemson’s culture is an intriguing factor for Osborne. He took a visit to campus right after he added the offer back in March.

“After I took that visit, it felt like home off the rip,” Osborne said in an interview in March. “Coach (Dabo) Swinney is a great coach but is an even more amazing person. He treated my family with nothing but kindness… The environment of everything and the relationship that I have with almost the entire staff on the defensive side of the ball is nothing but amazing. We talk almost every day. I know how well they develop at Clemson. They’re known for winning championships and known for having that winning culture. It was a no-brainer putting them as one of my top schools.”

Alabama is the team trending according to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine. The Crimson Tide has a 90.2% chance of landing Osborne.
