Trussville (Ala.) Hewitt-Trussville four-star defensive lineman Hunter Osborne originally planned to commit in late August. Now, he is announcing his decision at the beginning of the month on August 1.

“Just wanted to get it over with,” Osborne told On3. “I don’t want to wait too long on something like this, so I just decided to move it up earlier.”

Osborne is deciding between a top four of Alabama, Clemson, Tennessee and Texas. He started to have a feeling that he knew his top school in early July.

The 6-foot-3.5, 250 pound prospect is taking advantage of the summer to “sit down and just think to myself.” He has used some of this time to write down everything he wants and values in a program. That exercise helped him realize where he wants to play college football.

“They have their similarities and their differences,” Osborne said of his top four. “They’re all great programs. They all develop the same guys to the next level. They’re kind of different also. Texas is in (the process) of going to the SEC. Clemson is in the ACC. Bama and Clemson have always been on top as programs. Texas and Tennessee, definitely on the rise.

“They’re going to be more of upcoming programs and I think those two teams start with our ’23 class. It’s always good to think about being a part of something special.”

Hunter Osborne Recruiting Profile

Osborne took official visits to each program except Alabama in June. He has visited Alabama and Tennessee the most at four times each. Meanwhile, Osborne has taken two trips to Clemson and one to Texas.

He is ranked as the No. 113 overall prospect and No. 12 defensive lineman in the 2023 On3 Consensus,  a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Osborne is also rated as the No. 11 player in Alabama.

His On3 NIL Valuation is $119K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Hunter Osborne On3 Scouting Summary

The following is the On3 Scouting Summary for Hunter Osborne:

“Powerful, edge-setting defensive end who could grow into an interior defensive lineman down the line. Measured at over 6-foot-3, 250 pounds prior to his senior season. Has good length for the position with a 6-foot-8.5 wing-span. Plays defensive end for one of the better talent-producing high school programs in Alabama. A naturally strong athlete who wins with power. Takes on and sheds blocks to make plays in the backfield. Shows the ability to beat double teams with a straight-line power rush. Totaled 10 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks as a junior. More of a power rusher and run defender than a speed pass rusher at this time. Can improve his first-step quickness and pass rush technique. Current skill set and body type point to his highest upside being as a 3-4 defensive end or potentially an interior defensive lineman, pending his ultimate size.”
