Two Florida Gators next week will compete in one of the most prestigious events for college golfers. UF’s Luke Poulter and Jack Turner are taking part in the Arnold Palmer Cup on June 5-7 at Congaree Golf Club in Ridgeland, S.C. Both players were key members of the Florida team that just completed its season this week with a semifinal finish at the NCAA Championships in California.

Next week, these two will be on different squads.

Poulter will compete for Team International in the Ryder Cup-style event; Turner for Team USA.

Wrote FloridaGators.com of Poulter: “A redshirt-sophomore, Poulter recently earned PING All-Region honors during the National Championship after he shot back-to-back rounds of 70 (-2) in his national debut. Poulter concluded the 2024-25 season behind his first collegiate win at the Schenkel Invitational with a 54-hole score of 208 (-8). In 10 postseason rounds, six were under par and three in the 60s while he went undefeated (3-0) in SEC Championship match play with 4&2, 3&2 and 4&3 victories. He had a stroke average of 72.3 (third-best on the team) with two top-5s, four top-10 and 25 finishes. Poulter held marks of average relation to par of -0.37 (18 holes) and -1.1 (54 holes).”

Luke Poulter’s father is a big-name professional

Poulter, who attended high school in the Orlando, Fla., area, is the son of well-known international golfer  Ian Poulter. The younger Poulter was a PING All-Region selection this season.

Turner also is coming off a strong sophomore season. He was a PING All-Region pick and earned second-team All-SEC honors. He, too, played his high school golf in central Florida.

Per FloridaGators.com, “At the SEC Championship, (Turner) won the match-clinching point in the semifinals against the No. 1 player in college golf and back-to-back SEC Individual Champion, Jackson Koivun of Auburn, the reigning SEC and NCAA Champions. In stroke play, Turner shot all three rounds in the 60s for a T16 4-under outing. At the Bremerton Regional, he finished T12 to mark T22 finishes or better in all five of his career postseason tournaments.”

The Arnold Palmer Cup was co-founded by Arnold Palmer and the GCAA in 1997. It’s a unique event that features men and women competing side-by-side.
