On Wednesday, the Florida Gators signed 4-star EDGE Kevin Ford of Duncanville (Texas) High, holding off a late push from the Texas A&M Aggies.

With his decision finalized, Jon Sumrall‘s staff has secured one of the most important pieces in their class. Gators Online breaks down everything you need to know about him.

Position: EDGE
Height/Weight: 6-foot-3, 245 pounds
Rivals Industry Rankings: No. 148 overall; No. 18 EDGE; No. 20 in Texas
Commitment date: 7/11/25
Chose Florida over: Texas A&M, Alabama and Ohio State

Ford says: “They have already given me a good idea of my fit there and we’ve talked about that on past visits,” Ford said earlier this year. “[On the official visit] we talked some more about my fit and how much of a priority I am for them. They’ve shown me that time and time again since they started to recruit me. They think I can play the JACK and the F. (They said) having me would give them a true pass rusher on the team. Being someone who can play early is their emphasis since they have guys leaving.”
Notable: Ford nearly flipped to Texas A&M and it was a very close battle down the stretch. It was a recruitment Jon Sumrall had to win down the stretch.
Key stats: 22 tackles (13 solo), 14 tackles for loss, six sacks, one forced fumble and a blocked punt as a senior.

What the Gators are getting in Kevin Ford

Scouting report: Here’s what Gators Online sees when dissecting Ford’s film.

Ford’s first-step quickness is one of his biggest strengths. He consistently beats offensive tackles out of their stance and immediately puts pressure on the quarterback. His timing is excellent and he plays with urgency from snap to finish.

Ford has the ideal frame for an edge defender in the SEC. He’s got long arms, lean muscle, and impressive flexibility when bending the edge. On tape, he flashes the ability to dip low and flatten his path to the quarterback, a strong trait at his position. As he continues to grow physically, this build gives him a lot of long-term upside. The tools are all there.

This is what an anonymous Florida Gators’ source told Gators Online earlier in the year about Ford’s skill set.

“While watching, you could see wide hips, thick lower, and can bend. He’s loose with no stiffness. Has an explosive first step. He’s coordinated, twitched up, and can accelerate. Has an edge as a competitor. A physical player who knows how to play. We thought his play strengths were his stopping power vs good competition. He uses length and plays with his hands.”
