5-star S Jireh Edwards names Florida Gators in top 6

Upper Marlboro (MD) St. Frances Academy 5-star safety Jireh Edwards has already made a few changes to his top schools throughout this year. Edwards made a new update to his leaderboard on Wednesday afternoon, naming Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Oregon, and Texas A&M as finalists. These half-dozen schools will all host Edwards on campus over the next month before he announces his college commitment on July 5.
Edwards is in the middle of offical visits this summer. The Florida Gators are the lone school among his top six that don’t have an offical visit locked in, but he will spend a few days in Gainesvile next week on an unofficial visit June 3-5. It will be the first time back at UF for Jireh Edwards since last season for the Gators home win over LSU. The goal this time around is to learn more about the coaching staff and things away from football.
“I just want to get more time around the coaches,” Edwards told Gators Online. “Meet with Coach [Billy] Napier in person, and see Coach Vinnie Sunseri. Seeing all of them in person and spending time is the main reason I’m going.”

“We had a good connection when he was there,” Jireh Edwards said of Sunseri. “It’s been really good with him since he got to Florida, and is a school I’ve always considered. It’s good to see that he’s still got me as one of the top DBs on his board. He’s just trying to build a connection with me.”
The 6-foot-1 1/2, 205-pounder has already taken an official visit to Georgia. He will see Auburn this coming weekend for his next official visit. Trips to Alabama, Texas A&M, and Oregon are set for the following weekends. Jireh Edwards has a commitment date set for July 5. If the Florida Gators are going to be a legitimate player in this recruitment, a strong visit will need to take place next week.
The On3 Industry, a weighted average of the four major recruiting services, ranks Jireh Edwards as the nation’s No. 21 Overall player.
