Florida Gators starting pitcher Aidan King was announced as the SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday. It marks his fourth weekly conference honor of the 2025 season.

King is the first baseball player in UF history to receive four SEC weekly awards in a single season. The last SEC player to accomplish the feat was South Carolina’s Ethan Petry in 2023.

Monday’s announcement is King’s third SEC Freshman of the Week accolade and second in as many weeks (March 3, May 12), in addition to winning SEC Pitcher of the Week on March 3.

King earned a rubber match victory against No. 18 Alabama for the second weekend in a row, striking out eight Alabama batters and allowing just one earned run in 6.1 innings. He navigated around three errors to keep the Gators from losing the lead and help them win their sixth straight series.

Throwing 94 pitches, the Jacksonville, Fla. native allowed just six hits and two walks while holding the Crimson Tide to a .231 batting average. King left six Alabama runners on base in the outing, stranding the bases loaded in the fifth inning.

“Often times, you see someone makes an error and then it’s a four-pitch walk and the inning kind of gets away from you, but he just kept it together and truly remarkable honestly, to keep his composure like that,” UF coach Kevin O’Sullivan said of King on Saturday. “He’s shown time and time again that he’s beyond his years with his maturity and focus and all those types of things, so that’s two great starts in a row against two ranked teams, obviously. So really, really, really happy for him.”

Across his final four regular-season starts, King gave up just two earned runs in 20.2 innings for a 0.87 ERA while fanning 22 batters. He takes a 6-2 record, 2.76 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 65.1 innings into his first collegiate postseason.

King and the Gators return to action on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. ET against South Carolina in the first round of the 2025 SEC Tournament. Florida finished the regular season with eight total SEC weekly awards as a team.
