In July, the Florida Gators were predicted to finish sixth in the SEC, according to a preseason poll of media covering SEC Football Media Days. Athlon Sports’ Steven Lassan agrees with that assessment. But he thinks UF will have some company in that spot.

Athlon has projected the final record for all 136 major college teams, along with conference standings, and Lassan has Florida going 8-4 overall, and 4-4 in the SEC. In his projections, the Gators would finish in a six-way tie for sixth in the conference standings. Texas, Georgia and LSU are each picked to finish 7-1 in the league. The Gators play all three of them.

Here’s a look at Athlon’s complete SEC projections:

SECOverall
Texas7-111-1
Georgia7-111-1
LSU7-110-2
Alabama6-210-2
Texas A&M5-38-4
Florida4-48-4
South Carolina4-48-4
Oklahoma4-48-4
Ole Miss4-48-4
Tennessee4-48-4
Auburn4-48-4
Missouri3-57-5
Arkansas3-56-6
Vanderbilt2-66-6
Kentucky0-83-9
Mississippi State0-83-9

Athlon did not provide any context with these projections in this particular article, however there are things we can deduce from comparing overall and conference records of different teams.

—From Florida’s conference and overall record projection, we know that Athlon projects UF will beat both Miami (road) and Florida State (home) this season.

—With LSU at 10-2 and only one conference loss in these predictions (and looking at the rest of LSU’s non-conference schedule), we know Athlon projects the Tigers to lose at Clemson in Week 1.

—With all four of South Carolina’s projected losses coming in SEC play, that means Athlon likes the Gamecocks to beat Clemson in Game 12 at home.

—Texas is projected to win at Ohio State in Week 1.

—The Gators in 2025 will face six (of eight) SEC opponents Athlon predicts will finish at 4-4 or better in the conference. On the flip side, two UF opponents—Kentucky and Mississippi State—were each projected to go winless in the SEC.

Here are some other Athlon projections of note to Gator fans …

—Miami: 10-2, 7-1 in the ACC (2nd). Looking at Miami’s projection, we know Athlon likes the ‘Canes to beat Notre Dame in Week 1.
—Florida State: 7-5, 5-3 in the ACC (t-6th). Athlon projects the ‘Noles to also lose to another SEC opponent, Alabama.
—South Florida: 7-5, 6-2 in the American.
—Clemson: 11-1, 8-0 in the ACC (1st)
—Arizona State: 10-2, 7-2 in the Big 12 (t-1st)
—Kansas State: 10-2, 7-2 in the Big 12 (t-1st)
—Penn State: 11-1, 8-1 in the Big 10 (1-1st)
—Ohio State: 10-2, 8-1 in the Big 10 (1-1st)
