Receiver Dallas Wilson, who missed the Florida Gators’ first four games with a foot injury, looked good last week in his return to practice, according to UF coach Billy Napier. And it sounds like Napier is optimistic about the touted true freshman’s chances of playing Saturday vs. No. 9 Texas at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

“We’ll see as we go throughout the week,” Napier said. “But three good days of work last week. And I thought he handled the load well. We’ll be getting the report each day in terms of what the numbers look like and where he’s at. But he feels really good and so far so good.”

Before last week, Wilson had not practiced with the team since early August due to a foot injury. The staff has targeted the Texas game for him to make his season debut.

The consensus top-50 recruit was sidelined last month and placed in a hard cast. Then, he was in a boot for a few weeks. Wilson was receiving reps with the starting offense in camp before his injury. He set a school record in the Orange & Blue Game with 195 receiving yards. He caught 10 receptions, including two red-zone touchdowns and a long of 31 yards.

“He’s a problem. He’s a problem. He’s exceptional,” Napier said of Wilson in late August. “He’ll be a major factor this year. So, we’re excited about Dallas for sure.”

The Gators were off last week and Napier thinks the open week will help the team be more healthy as it readies for Texas.

“In general, some of those guys that maybe couldn’t play [last] Saturday if we’d played, I do think we’ll anticipate getting those guys back,” Napier said. “So it came at a good time. Obviously Dallas Wilson would be the headliner. For him to be able to practice last week and be available is a big deal.”

The Gators’ offense is in major need of a spark. UF, at 328.2 yards a game, ranks 113th in yards gained and only 98th in scoring (22.0).
