Boogie Fland continues to generate hype ahead of first season at Florida
Florida guard Boogie Fland was named to the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Top 20 preseason list, the Basketball Hall of Fame announced Monday. The Cousy Award is part of the Naismith Starting 5, which honors the top players at each position.
Fland transferred to Florida this offseason after a strong freshman year at Arkansas. He averaged 13.5 points and 5.1 assists in 21 games that season. He also had an impressive 3.72 assist-to-turnover ratio. A Bronx, N.Y., native, Fland was recently named to the preseason All-SEC second team by media voters.
The Cousy Award has been given out since 2004. Last season, Florida’s Walter Clayton Jr. was one of five finalists for the honor.
Earlier this, Fland also landed featured in ESPN’s “Top-50 Impact Newcomers” list for the 2025-26 season. As expected, there is serious hype surrounding the former 5-star prospect.
“Fland didn’t take long to commit to the reigning national champion Gators after withdrawing from the NBA draft — a much-needed development for Todd Golden’s team,” Jeff Borzello wrote. “Fland suffered a hand injury midway through last season, but the former five-star prospect was having a terrific freshman campaign at Arkansas, averaging 15.1 points and 5.7 assists over the first 18 games.”
