Charges won't be filed against Gators DB Dijon Johnson

No charges will be filed by the State Attorney’s Office in the case regarding Florida Gators cornerback Dijon Johnson for a traffic stop that occurred May 2 in Tampa, Gators Online has confirmed.
“The State Attorney’s Office filed paperwork confirming that they will take no further action regarding this incident,” Johnson’s attorney, Tim Taylor, said. “We have worked closely with prosecutors on this for the past few months and are pleased with their diligence and professionalism. Dijon and his family are happy to have this matter behind them. Dijon is focused on his academic and football commitments and is excited for the start of the football season.”
Johnson, a possible starter, initially faced four charges when arrested: second-degree felony for possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, third-degree felony for possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor resisting an officer without violence, misdemeanor possession of cannabis less than 20 grams.
But following Johnson’s arrest, Taylor noted, “We are eager for all the pertinent facts to come to light.”

Johnson, a junior from Tampa, played in all 13 games at cornerback last season with five starts. He recorded 25 total tackles (16 solo), one QB hurry and two pass break-ups. Johnson played the most snaps at cornerback due to injuries. He made his first career start vs. UGA and started the final four games.
He got the nod against LSU, recording a career high four tackles and his only TFL of the season. He made his second consecutive start at corner against Ole Miss and recorded three tackles (two solo) a pass break-up and a QB hurry in the win. He almost made his first career interception vs. Ole Miss as well.
Johnson returned from offseason shoulder surgery during spring camp but was limited. Per Zach Abolverdi of Gators Online, “The competition between cornerbacks Cormani McClain and Dijon Johnson to start opposite Devin Moore could be the most heated position battle in all of camp.”
