Chauncey Gardner-Johnson‘s time with the Baltimore Ravens was brief. The veteran safety was released from the Ravens’ practice squad after just one week, marking another short chapter in his NFL career.

Gardner-Johnson’s agent, Kevin Conner, told ESPN’s Adam Schefter it was an “amicable mutual decision.” He added, “After the Ravens traded for a safety, we were looking for a clearer path to play.”

This move comes after Gardner-Johnson’s release from the Houston Texans earlier this season. He joined the Ravens’ practice squad following their Week 5 loss, but with the acquisition of safety Alohi Gilman, his chances to play in Baltimore were limited.

Gardner-Johnson was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent several seasons in New Orleans before moving to Philadelphia for his first stint with the Eagles. He then had a stint in Detroit before returning to the Eagles in 2024 and winning Super Bowl LIX. Earlier this year, he was traded to the Texans but spent only three weeks with them before being released.

Throughout his career, Gardner-Johnson has been known for his aggressive play, versatility and ability to make game-changing plays.

A former standout at Florida, Gardner-Johnson left Gainesville as one of the Gators’ most physical and instinctive defensive backs. In the NFL, he has made his mark as a hard-hitting safety who can play multiple roles in the secondary.

Now, Gardner-Johnson will be looking for another team where he can earn meaningful playing time and continue to impact the game with his experience and playmaking ability.
