Florida QB DJ Lagway earns recognition from two awards after win over Texas

After leading Florida to a big win over No. 9 Texas, quarterback DJ Lagway earned national recognition from two major awards.
Lagway was named to the Davey O’Brien Award’s Great Eight for Week 6 and received an honorable mention from the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award.
The Davey O’Brien Award honors the nation’s top quarterback who displays leadership, skill, sportsmanship and teamwork on and off the field. The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the best player who either plays college football in Texas or went to high school there.
Lagway delivered one of his best games of the season in the Gators’ first ranked win of the year and the first victory over Texas in school history. He completed 21-of-28 passes for 298 yards, including a 60-yard strike, and threw two touchdowns in the 29–21 victory.
Before the season began, Lagway was already on the watch list for both awards. With this latest honor, he officially earns a spot on the Davey O’Brien Award Midseason Watch List.
As a member of the 2024 class, Lagwas a 5-star prospect, the No. 1-ranked quarterback, and a top-three prospect overall coming out of Willis (Texas) High. Only Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith and Georgia cornerback Ellis Robinson, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking were ranked higher.

Through five games for the 2-3 Gators, Lagway has completed 104-of-151 passes for 988 yards, seven touchdowns and seven interceptions. Five of those interceptions came in Florida’s 20-10 road loss to LSU, so turnovers have been at a minimum outside of that content.
