It’s been a busy day of current Florida Gators announcing their intentions to enter the NCAA Transfer portal. The latest name planning to enter their name into the portal once it opens on Jan. 2 is redshirt freshman safety Josiah Davis. Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett was the first to report the news of Davis’ intentions to transfer.

Josiah Davis saw limited snaps in his 2 years at UF

The underclassman defensive back out of Nashville (Ga.) Berrien signed with the Florida Gators during the 2024 recruiting class. He was primarily recruited early on in the process by area recruiter and former Gators’ assistant Jay Bateman. As the process continued for Josiah Davis and the Orange and Blue, defensive backs coach Corey Raymond got involved. However, Raymond was fired following the end of the 2023-2024 season, but Davis stuck with his initial commitment and signed in December.

Josiah Davis saw action in four games during his first season in Gainesville, playing against Samford, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, and in UF’s bowl game win that season over Tulane. Davis was used primarily on special teams that season, but did get some burn at defensive back.

This past season, Davis saw action in only UF’s season-opening win on special teams. He ends his two-year career with the Florida Gators with 1 tackle.

Josiah Davis is the fifth Florida Gator scholarship player to announce their intentions to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal on Monday. Other names with plans to move on from the program include sophomore quarterback DJ Lagway, redshirt freshman running back KD Daniels, redshirt freshman tight end Amir Jackson, and junior safety Jordan Castell. True freshman walk-on wide receiver Mike Peterson Jr. also plans to enter the portal.

Josiah Davis was a 3-star prospect in the 2024 cycle. He was rated as the No. 480 overall recruit, No. 41-ranked safety, and No. 56-ranked player in the state of Georgia. That is according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted algorithm that compiles all major recruiting media services.
