GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Former Jacksonville Jaguars general manager David Caldwell is finalizing a deal to be Florida’s next general manager, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. He’s been with the Philadelphia Eagles since 2021 and was the Jacksonville Jaguars GM from 2013-20.

Gators Online first reported on Sunday morning that Caldwell was considered the favorite for the job. He is one of four NFL candidates that interviewed with UF, along with Ole Miss GM Billy Glasscock.

Caldwell’s hire come on the heels of the Gators tabbing Tulane’s Jon Sumrall as the team’s next head coach on Sunday. He will be officially announced later this afternoon.

Caldwell is in his fifth season as a member of Philadelphia’s player evaluation department under GM Howie Roseman. He joined the Eagles as a personnel executive and was named a senior personnel director/advisor to the general manager during the 2022 offseason. During his tenure, Philly has appeared in two Super Bowls (LVII and LIX), including a victory over Kansas City, 40-22, in Super Bowl LIX.

Caldwell finished his eight-year stint in Jacksonville with a record of 39–87 (.310), including a 2-1 mark in the playoffs. The highlight of his tenure was 2017, when the Jaguars went 10-6, won the AFC South title, and advanced to the AFC Championship Game. The franchise fired Caldwell in 2020 after the team’s 10th straight loss and a 1-10 start.

Prior to the Jaguars, Caldwell was a part of teams that made the playoffs in 13 of his first 17 NFL seasons – Atlanta Falcons (2008-12), Indianapolis Colts (1998-2007) and Carolina Panthers (1996-97).
