The Florida Gators had another baseball player enter the transfer portal. Friday junior infielder Kris Armstrong officially entered his name in the portal. Armstong is the seventh Gator to enter the transfer portal this off-season. He joins Mac Guscette and Jorge De Goti, Timmy Manning, Nick Pogue, Corey Robinson, and Karl Hartman.

Armstrong enrolled at Florida as a two-way player in 2019. As a freshman, he saw action in 19 games (5 starts) as a reserve infielder and made nine appearances on the mound. He batted .294 (10-for-34) with seven extra-base hits and four RBI.

In 2021 he found more playing time as a designated hitter and first baseman. He played in 43 games including 36 starts (all at first base and designated hitter). He slashed .289/.352/.535, while hitting eight home runs, one triple, nine doubles, and 30 RBI.

Last season he split time at first base with Kendrick Calilao and later BT Riopelle. Armstrong played in 35 games including 26 starts at first base and designated hitter. He hit just .230 with two home runs, one triple, five doubles, 15 runs and 10 RBI across 100 at bats

Catcher Mac Guscette was the first Gator to announce his decision.

“Gator Nation, I have made the very difficult decision to put my name in the transfer portal,” Guscette wrote on Twitter. “Although my time at UF started in the fall of 2020, I have been a Gator since I first committed to UF baseball back in 2016. I want to thank Coach O’Sullivan, Coach Bell, Coach Jeroloman, Coach Kopp, and all of the support staff and volunteers within the baseball program and athletic department who helped and supported me while at UF.”

“A sincere thank you to Coach O’Sullivan for his class and professionalism in understanding my decision to transfer and his continued support. I have made lifelong friendships with many of my Gator teammates. Although we may not be on the same field again, we are forever linked. I m eternally grateful for your friendship and support. Lastly, I want to thank Gator fans. Thank you for all of the great memories. I wish nothing but success for the Gators. Thank you for an incredible two years.”

The Gators have picked up two commitments from the portal this week. Thursday outfielder Colby Thomas announced his commitment to Florida. Friday afternoon Coastal Carolina infielder Dale Thomas made his announcement.
