Florida Gators EDGE Tyreak Sapp bench presses 445 pounds

Tyreak Sapp has been eating his Wheaties this offseason. Sapp set a new personal best on the bench press Monday, and his rep was shared on X by Brandon Spikes.
Spikes, the former All-American linebacker at UF and Florida’s current Assistant Director of Player Development, posted a video of Sapp bench pressing 445 pounds.
Sapp had a breakout year in 2024, making 47 tackles and leading the team in sacks (7.0) tackles-for-loss (13.0) with nine starts in 13 games. He also forced two fumbles and graded out in the top five among UF defenders in nine games last year.
His 90.4 PFF grade is the highest among all qualified Florida players, the eighth highest among all FBS edge rushers, the fifth highest among SEC edge rushers and the highest of any Gators defender since 2019 (Jonathan Greenard, 90.5).
Sapp decided to return for his redshirt senior season after considering the 2025 NFL Draft. He was of eight Gators named to the preseason All-SEC team last week.

Mike Peterson on Tyreak Sapp
“Sapp, man, he’s one of those guys,” Florida EDGE coach Mike Peterson said in the spring. “He’s the first guy I put in my suitcase when I’m travelling. That kind of how I feel about it. I pack him first. Played with a whole lot of passion, man. As a coach, if you were a coach and you played that way, I played with a lot of passion, a lot of energy. You know, wanting to get everybody farther, and to see my players playing that way, we kind of feed off each other. I think his growth is learning the game.
“He’s communicating with the young guys. Not just knowing what you do. Knowing what the guy on the other side’s doing. What all the other guys on the field are doing. What opponent’s trying to do to us. So, taking the game to the next level is kind of the conversations I’ve been having with him and being a pro. It’s time to be a pro. It’s time to approach everything as a pro. He’s taking it right with him. I’m proud of him, and I’m expecting a lot from him. We’re not done.”
