GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators fell outside of the top 20 in the latest Associated Press Poll after splitting their games last week. UF is now No. 23 after being 18th in the rankings last week.

Florida (6-4) also dropped three spots to No. 21 in the new USA Today Coaches Poll.

The Gators came up short, 77-73, against UConn last Tuesday at the Jimmy V Classic in Madison Square Garden. It marked the team’s second-straight loss to a top-five opponent (at Duke).

Florida bounced back with an 80-70 win over George Washington on Saturday. Xaivian Lee scored a season-high 24 points — after 19 in New York — and earned Orange Bowl Classic MVP honors.

“I think he’s playing a lot better. You know, three out of his last four games have been pretty dang good,” UF coach Todd Golden said of Lee, who scored 20 points against Providence on Nov. 28. “He’s really coming on for us, and it’s what we expected from him at the beginning of the season.”

The Gators return to the O’Dome Wednesday against Saint Francis at 6:30 p.m. on SEC Network. It will be the team’s first home game in almost a month. Florida last played in Gainesville on Nov. 21.
