Florida Gators star Jake Slaughter has been named one of three finalists for the 2025 Rimington Trophy, which is given each year to the best center in Division I college football. The award is named after Dave Rimington, a two-time All-America center at Nebraska who later played for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Slaughter, a redshirt senior, has been Florida’s starting center for the past three seasons. He started eight games in 2023 and has played in every game since 2022. In 2025, he snapped the ball 748 times, allowing just one sack, one quarterback hit, and two hurries. He earned a PFF offense grade of 78.9, a run-block grade of 82.2 and a pass-block grade of 87.1 for the season.

In 11 games, his pass-block grade was 70.0 or higher. Among all centers, Slaughter ranks eighth nationally in PFF’s run-block, pass-block and overall offense grades. He was also fifth in zone run-block grade with an 80.3.

This is not Slaughter’s first Rimington honor. He was on the watch list last year and had a strong 2024 season, earning First Team All-American honors. Before the 2025 season, he appeared on the Rimington Trophy watch list for the second straight year and was named a Preseason All-American First Team member by ESPN, Sporting News and Walter Camp.

Slaughter’s selection marks only the third time in history that a Gator has been a finalist for the Rimington Trophy. Mike Degory was a finalist in 2005, while Maurkice Pouncey won the award in 2009.

The winner of the Rimington Trophy is determined by the first-team selections of the Walter Camp Foundation, Sporting News, and the Football Writers Association of America. The player with the most first-team votes from these three publications will be announced Friday, Dec. 12, 2025.
