GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida opens spring football camp in just one month. With the spring game set for Thursday, April 13, the Gators will kick off camp on Friday, March 4.

The spring game will be the culmination of spring practice. Practices can be conducted over a 34-day period with 20 hours per week of unrestricted activities. Players must receive one day off per week. 15 on-field practice sessions may be held, with no more than 12 involving contact. Full contact may not occur until the third practice.

Florida says that the Thursday night game allows them to promote and gain a national audience, giving the University of Florida the national spotlight. It also creates an opportunity for the staff to host and interact with some of the top recruits in the nation. Having the game on a weekday allows Florida to not compete with other schools that typically hold their spring games on Saturdays.

Notes on the Gators for spring camp

  • Offensive lineman Kamryn Waites will miss spring camp with an Achilles injury. Waites suffered the injury during the first two days of the foundation phase of off-season workouts.
  • Quarterback Max Brown is currently practicing with the baseball team. However, Brown will not miss practice with the football team. A scholarship quarterback, Brown and Napier met prior to him joining the baseball team to discuss a plan for Brown to play both sports. The Gators have just two other scholarship quarterbacks and can’t afford to have Brown miss spring camp.
  • The Gators have 27 new scholarship players (high school signees and transfer portal players) that enrolled this spring and will go through camp.
  • Kicker Adam Mihalek was awarded a scholarship. Mihalek served as the Gators’ kicker throughout the 2022 season as a walk-on.
  • Billy Napier had this to say about potential others being awarded scholarships: “Adam (Mihalek), in particular, and certainly very deserving in his role and how he contributed to our team this past year. We’ll have a handful more, but I think we’re going to observe the work this spring before we make those decisions.”
