A fan favorite alternative jersey combination within the Florida Gators fanbase has easily been the 1970s throwback look. Florida last wore their throwback alternative combo against the Vanderbilt Commodores in 2021, which ended in a 42-0 victory for the Gators. It’s been four years since UF last wore this jersey combination, but that will change this season.

The Florida Gators are bringing back the throwbacks

The official Florida Gators X account (formerly known as Twitter) shared on Monday evening that the team will sport its 1970s throwback jerseys for its homecoming game against Mississippi State on October 18. UF has worn different combinations of throwbacks. This year, the team will wear orange helmets with the interlocking ‘UF’ logo, throwback blue jerseys, and white throwback pants. The team shared the news on X with a video that includes sophomore linebacker Myles Graham, showing off the threads. You can watch that video below.

The Florida Gators are undefeated since 2006 in throwback jerseys on homecoming. The team celebrated 100 years of Florida football in the 2006 season, and wore blue throwback jerseys with white throwback helmets. The Gators beat Alabama in The Swamp by a score of 28-13. The Gators didn’t wear throwback jerseys again until the 2019 and 2020 seasons. The Gators had an exciting homecoming, 24-13/ win in throwback jerseys in the 2019 season, beating Auburn 24-13. The following year, Florida beat Missouri in 2020 with blue throwback jerseys and blue throwback helmets, 41-17. The Gators win again, as mentioned above, in 2021 on homecoming against Vanderbilt.

Florida has high hopes for the 2025 season

The Florida Gators finished last season on a 4-game winning streak to end the year with an 8-5 record. The Gators had wins to end the season over ranked opponents, LSU and Ole Miss. Florida also beat in-state rival, Florida State, on the road, and Tulane in the Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa. That 8-5 finish was the best season for Florida head coach Billy Napier as the head coach in Gainesville.

There is also excitement this season surrounding the return of players such as quarterback DJ Lagway and receiver Tre Wilson They’ll face a tough SEC schedule, but some are even hopeful for an outside shot at making the College Football Playoff.

Time will tell what happens there, but these uniforms are only ramping up more excitement for the season to kick off. It’s now less than two weeks away before Florida opens things up against Long Island University on Aug. 30. The Florida Gators enter that match up with a No. 15 ranking in the preseason AP Top 25 poll.
