Florida Gators kicker Trey Smack has been named one of 20 semifinalists for the 2025 Lou Groza Award, given annually to the nation’s top place-kicker. That was announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Smack has been Florida’s primary kicker since taking over the role in Week 3 of the 2023 season. He has continued to excel in 2025, showing consistency and range that make him a standout in the position.

This season, Smack remains perfect on extra points, going 23-for-23 to bring his career total to 96. He has also made 15-of-18 field goals, including four from 50 yards or longer. His 56-yard field goal against LIU on Aug. 30 set a career long, while a 54-yarder against No. 5 Georgia on Nov. 1 pushed him past all other Florida kickers in career field goals of 50-plus yards, giving him nine. Against Mississippi State on Oct. 18, he set another personal mark by making both a 53 and 54-yard field goal in the same game.

Smack has also been a weapon on kickoffs, totaling 3,119 yards on 49 attempts, including 37 touchbacks and only one kickoff out of bounds.

The semifinalist list will be cut to three finalists on Nov. 25, with the Lou Groza Award winner announced Dec. 12. Florida has only produced one winner: Judd Davis in 1993, although Caleb Sturgis was a finalist in 2011 and 2012 and Evan McPherson was a semifinalist in 2018 and 2020.
