Florida head coach Jon Sumrall donates $100,000 to Tulane's NIL fund following departure
The college football coaching carousel can bring crazy stories. Coaches can leave a program in limbo as they plan their next moves. Some deny jobs they plan to take, and, in past years, have left unexpectedly. That makes the happy stories hit differently when they happen. One of those feel-good stories happened on Monday morning with new Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall. The former Tulane head man accepted the Florida job last month, but is invested in his former program’s future success.
Tulane Athletics announced on Monday that Sumrall and his wife, Ginny, have made a $100,000 contribution to the Green Wave Talent Fund, which is the university’s primary NIL collective. This gesture from the Sumrall family is a way of showing support to the program’s next head coach, Will Hall. The goal of this gift is to help strengthen Tulane’s ability to recruit, retain, and develop championship-caliber student-athletes.
Classy move by new Florida head coach Jon Sumrall
While head coach of the Green Wave, Jon Sumrall amassed a 20-7 record in two seasons. Furthermore, Sumrall helped push Tulane into new heights as a program. They captured the American Athletic Conference championship this season and delivered the program’s first-ever College Football Playoff appearance.
“Tulane University and New Orleans are special to me and my family,” Jon Sumrall said in a release. “Ginny and I are honored to support the Green Wave Talent Fund because we believe in the vision of Tulane Athletics and want to contribute to the continued success of its student-athletes. The future is incredibly bright, and we are excited for Will Hall and his family to be part of it.”

With Sumrall heading to the next step of his coaching career, Tulane filled his vacancy by promoting from within. As the Green Wave looks to stay successful under Will Hall, Sumrall voiced his confidence in his successor.
“Coach Hall possesses a keen understanding of Tulane University and its football program, along with a passion that greatly benefits the Green Wave. As a leader, he cares deeply about helping others reach their full potential and is dedicated to equipping them to achieve that goal in every way possible. He has our family’s full support, and we wish him nothing but success as he leads Tulane Football!”
As Sumrall settles in Gainesville, his legacy in New Orleans now includes not only wins and championships, but an investment in future success. It further proves that Jon Sumrall is a one-of-a-kind leader in this new era in college football.
