Florida, LSU players have pregame scuffle during warmups

The Florida Gators are set for their first road game of the season, as well as the team’s first SEC game of the season, on Saturday night. The Gators are in Baton Rouge for a night game showdown against the No. 3-ranked LSU Tigers. These two rivals have clashed several times, and we’ve seen pregame scuffles in these types of games. About an hour and a half ahead of kick-off, Florida and LSU players broke into a pregame scuffle during warmups.
Before this scuffle could escalate any further, it appears the two sides were broken up. You can also see former Florida Gators edge, Jack Pyburn (#44), who is now at LSU, in the middle of this scuffle, trying to separate both sides.

The Florida Gators are looking to rebound from last week’s loss
The Florida Gators are 1-1 on the season, and suffered their first loss at home last weekend against USF. The Gators would love to rebound this weekend against their conference rivals. In the 2024 season, Florida started off the season with a 4-5 record. However, when the Gators met then No. 22-ranked LSU in The Swamp last season, it helped kick-start a run of wins to close out the year. The Gators went on to win their next three games to finish with an 8-5 record.
Through two games this season, the Florida Gators’ offense ranks 67th nationally in total offense and 46th in scoring. The Gators average 403 yards per game, which is just 13th in the SEC. This week’s opponent — No. 3 LSU — allows only 207.5. Florida managed 451 yards against FCS LIU in Week 1 but followed with just 355 in the crushing loss to USF.

It’s been a slower start to the season than anticipated for Florida Gators sophomore quarterback DJ Lagway. While he’s completed 75% of his passes through two games, his total passing yards sit at 342, along with 4 touchdowns and 1 interception. Though the early-season expectations were high for Lagway, Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier has said he sees encouraging signs.
“DJ continues to get exponentially better by the day,” Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier said. “The more work he gets, the better he’s going to get. It’s exponential improvement this month because he’s getting a ton of reps each day with his teammates, so I’m excited about that. I think that’s one of the things that I look forward to, is watching him continue to get better.”
Florida currently leads the all-time series against LSU 34-32-2 and won last year’s matchup 27-16. Before last year’s win for the Gators, LSU had won five consecutive meetings dating back to 2019. It would be equally as big for LSU. The Tigers currently sit at No. 3 in this week’s AP Poll, their highest ranking since reaching the No. 1 spot on Dec. 28, 2019.
