Todd Golden on Revolutionaries

“I think they’re very, very good offensively. They play close to four-guard-ish-type players. They spread you out. They’re a good early offense, ball-screen team. They had a disappointing effort last night, and I’m sure we’re going to get a team that’s pretty fired up and emotional to try to flip that. But I made sure the guys understood after the UConn game the other night, when there was some disappointment in the locker room, that if we allow ourselves to sulk, we’re going to get punked on Saturday. This is a really good team. This isn’t a team that we can walk in and just expect to win. We got to play well on Saturday. And I think our guys understand that and respect George Washington.”

Game notes

* The Gators have battled one of the nation’s toughest schedules to date, third-hardest per KenPom, already facing three teams that currently sit in the AP top five. George Washington will be the eighth KenPom top-100 opponent UF will face, the team’s most in regular season nonconference action since 2017-18.

* In Florida’s three games this season vs. current AP top-5 opponents, Thomas Haugh has averaged 23.0 points on .575 shooting (23-40), .429 from 3-point range (6-14).

* At 11.2 rebounds per game, Rueben Chinyelu is making an early bid to be the fi rst Gator in 50 years to average in double figures. He has six games with 10+ boards, including a 21-rebound performance vs. Merrimack, the most rebounds by a Gator in 43 years and tied the O’Dome record (Eugene McDowell, 21 vs. Georgia, 1/6/1982).

* With the Gators visiting the home of the Florida Panthers, the reigning NCAA men’s basketball champion plays in the home of the reigning Stanley Cup champion for the first time in 10 years, last occurring in Nov. 2015 when Duke played a game at Chicago’s United Center.

* Florida is logging nearly 13,000 miles in nonconference play this season, already visiting Las Vegas, San Diego, Durham and New York along with Sunrise. Last season, the Gators hit the 13,000-mile mark on their trip to Raleigh for the NCAA Tournament first round.
