NFL.com and The NFL Network releases a list of Top100 players in the league each year. The players in the league vote on their top players. A countdown from 100 to 1 is released in segments ahead of the season. The latest segment of top players No. 50 – 41 was released this week, and included a former Florida Gators standout. Former Florida edge Jonathan Greenard checks in at No. 48 on this list, his first inclusion as a pro.

Former Florida Edge Jonathan Greenard makes the cut

After one season at Florida, Jonathan Greenard was drafted by the Houston Texas in the 3rd round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He played 4 seasons with the Texans. However, Greenard signed a four-year, $76 million contract with the Minnesota Vikings in the spring of 2024. This past year was his best season in the professional ranks. In 17 games, he logged 59 tackles (18 TFL), 12 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery.

Greenard recorded three sacks and four tackles in a 34–7 win over the Texans last season. That earned him NFC Defensive Player of the Week.

“Greenard signed a four-year contract to join the Vikings last offseason, putting big expectations on his shoulders to produce and aid in the pass rush out of the gate,” NFL.com wrote for Greenard’s including in the Top 100. “And Greenard did just that, establishing himself quickly in the Minnesota defense as a QB-hunting threat and part of the team’s turnover-happy unit. Responsible for a quartet of takeaways himself, Greenard was rewarded for his impactful performance with his first Pro Bowl nod and a few points for Defensive Player of the Year voting. Set to stay in Minnesota for the long term, Greenard figures to maintain his new key role in the defense going forward, especially after some significant free agency departures.”

Jonathan Greenard was one of just two edge defenders in the NFL to record 50+ pressures, 10+ sacks, 25+ run stops, and 10+ run stuffs. Furthermore, the other player to reach those marks was Myles Garrett.

Greenard was productive in his lone season at Florida

Jonathan Greenard signed with the Louisville Cardinals out of Hiram (Ga.) in the class of 2015. He accounted for 70 tackles, 9.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and an interception in two seasons. However, a wrist injury cut short his 2018 season at Louisville, and he transferred to Florida for the 2019 season.

In his single season with the Florida Gators, he was certainly one of the top players in the SEC.

Greenard was named the SEC co-Defensive Lineman of the Week in his first ever game at UF. This came as a result of making six tackles with 1.5 sacks against the Miami Hurricanes. He notched 50 tackles (15.5 TFL), 9.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and an interception. He also led the SEC in sacks that season.
